Summary | Predator avoidance relies mainly on behavioural mechanisms and is thought to be one of the major causes of group-living in diurnal species [1]. Most nocturnal primates do not form cohesive groups. Instead, they have been attributed a cryptic lifestyle as a means of predator avoidance [2]. This is clearly not the case, however, in most nocturnal lemurs which behave noisily during regular activities and have elaborated vocal communication. Here, I report social, non-cryptic anti-predator behaviour performed by a nocturnal lemur - Phaner furcifer. |
